In the final week of E-learning tools to use in the classroom, we had a look at Google Earth and Maps. These programs would be really great for most subjects, where students are able to view historical sites or rainforests or different places around the world. They allow students to connect with the real world via the internet. In subjects like Geography, Biology, Study of Religion, Graphics and Art, students can view different buildings, museums, cathedrals and geographical sites there are around the world, or simply just the living conditions of other cultures and climates. Instead of travelling half way around the world to see these things, students can easily use the internet.
In HPE, I don't see how I could use these sites. They probably could be used to view different gymnasiums and ovals around the world, but I don't see how this is relevant to learning about Health and Physical Education. If you think that there's some way that I could, I would love to know how I could incorporate these into my lessons, because I think that it is a really great resource and would be really enjoyable for students to use.

ReplyDeletehey hannah, i agree it is difficult to incorportae this type of digital tool into HPE lessons, maybe it could be used to view different terrains that people train on, however this tool is definately suited to those teaching SOSE and Science.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rikky, that this e-tool is right up in the geography/history/science alley. I've been thinking of ways you can incorporate Google Earth into your HPE lessons, and I wondered whether the idea of sport/human movement across the world is something you can look into? Perhaps use Google Earth as a means of letting your learners investigate specific sport events like the Olympic Games or Soccer World Cup. Then there's always the history/geography behind various sports: where did a sport come from, why do they play certain sports in certain regions, how does environment affect movement, etc. Something to think about, but a challenge for sure!
